Umzumbe Beach located on south coast, KwaZulu-Natal
Umzumbe is often referred to as Pumula beach seemingly because of the close proximity of the Pumula Hotel which is tucked away in the dune forest immediately behind the Blue Flag beach. Umzumbe beach is a newcomer ot the Blue Flag programme. This beach is one of the best kept secrets of the south coast and many families enjoy this protected and safe swimming beach. There is also a tidal pool for swimming. Be warned that there is quite a steep access to the beach, as one has to walk down a steep tarred walkway to the beach but once there, it is worth the trip. The parking is located at the top of the walkway to the beach. The ablutions and facilities at the beach have recently been upgraded. Lifeguards are on duty throughout the year and during the main holiday season, environmental education programmes are run for children and all the beachgoers.
